Choosing an all-natural deodorant

Anybody looking for a good deodorant? If you said yes, I think I’ve got some good recommendations:)

My son’s health issues were the initial impetus behind us making swooping health and wellness changes in our lives. However, a couple of years before he was born, I had already started looking for more natural substitutes for my body products. Deodorant was first up on my list, since it was something I applied directly to my skin in such a sensitive and vulnerable spot. I first switched to an aluminum-free deodorant, as did my husband. But there were still a lot of ingredients in the average aluminum-free deodorants that I didn’t love. I wanted to find something with minimal ingredients, and, of course, I also wanted to work. Because, really, who wants to smell?

Around the time of my second pregnancy, I started making my own deodorant. I found a recipe online at OhDearDrea. All it required was some aluminum-free baking soda, arrowroot powder, coconut oil, and an essential oil of your choice. But I did find it a little difficult to apply. I also found it difficult to keep up with the process of making it along with all the other stuff I was just learning to do at the time, such as  cooking everything from scratch for my son, coordinating his therapy schedules, dealing with morning sickness, and just generally keeping up with house and home. So I continued my search for a good all-natural brand.

A lot of research and a lot of trying out new brands led us to the following three deodorants that we continue to use to this day. They are as follows:

Organic Petal Pushers Fancies Deodorant

Sandalwood Deodorant

My husband and cousin love the Sandalwood scent. I love the Coconut scent. This deodorant was one of the first we found that kept us smelling lovely all day long. Purchase here. (Update  – this company seems to sell out quickly. I think it’s because they make their deodorant in small batches. So I try to buy it up while I can.)

Primal Pit Paste

This deodorant comes in an easy to apply dispenser and is paraben and aluminum-free. And it works! I love the lavender scent. Purchase here.

Erbabiva Organic Deodorant

This deodorant comes in a spray form. It’s very cooling when applied. It’s a bit lighter than the other two deodorants and doesn’t always last as long, but it feels so clean going on and the scent is amazing. The Jasmine & Grapefruit is great, but so is the Lemon & Sage. Purchase here.

If you’re looking to switch to more natural body products, your deodorant is a good place to start. We’ve had success with the three brands I listed above, though I’m sure there are several more out there that I would try and like. That’s the great thing about this whole green living thing catching on. There are more options to choose from then ever. Here’s to smelling nice naturally!
